Navratri is one of the important Hindu festivals. Hinduscelebrated this festival around the world with enormous enthusiasm andreligious fervor. This festival celebrates to worship their Goddess Jagdamba,while it takes Durga’s shape when it is in West Bengal.On the other hand, in southern part of their country, Navratri happens during October toNovember is devoted to the avatars of Goddess Shakti. The first three days isfor the Warrior Goddess (Goddess Durga), another three days is for he Goddessof Wealth (Goddess Lakshmi) and the remaining three days is for the Goddess ofKnowledge (Goddess Saraswati). The display of the miniature of their Goddess orwhat they called Bomma Kolu is one of the important rituals performs in South India during Navratri.
During this festival there are many activities andrituals do by the devotees. There are exchanging of their greeting cards, gift,preparing Navratri recipes and meals such as sago recipes, milk products, potatorecipes etc., dancing and singing some Navratri songs, etc. to commemoratetheir Goddess. Additionally, they offer money and Prasad as they pay for theblessings (dakshina) as part of their tradition.
Thecommemoration of this festival is characterized by worship of Goddess Shakti. Eventhough devotees in different areas and regions celebrate this festival indissimilar way, it only shows one idea and that is to honor Goddess Shakti andask for blessing to her. The nine consecutive nights of Navratri in Maharashtra have been devoted to adoration of theperformances ad deities; specifically dadiya or the folk dance danced by bothwomen and men together. On the other hand, devotees performed Garba dance in Gujarat during Narvratri festival.
